Your 14-Week Varsity Swim Season Is Already Planned
High school swim seasons move quickly. Coaches have little time to introduce team expectations, teach four strokes, develop starts and turns, prepare multiple ability levels and produce championship performances.
A High School Season in USRPT provides a practical framework for doing exactly that.
Coach Lori Jo McCullough documents a complete 14-week varsity season using Ultra Short Race Pace Training principles. Each week includes practice plans, race-specific sets, skill priorities, active recovery and coaching notes that explain how the session should operate.
The book also addresses the daily realities that generic training manuals often overlook: beginners sharing a team with experienced swimmers, limited lanes, reduced practice time, attendance problems, swimmer accountability, mental training, recovery and championship-event preparation.
This is not presented as a rigid formula or a pure scientific USRPT manual. It is an adaptable account of how one coach applied race-pace training successfully in a high school setting.
The documented season produced personal-best performances throughout the team, faster relays, five Pennsylvania state qualifiers and four-stroke proficiency among new swimmers, while practices remained below 2,400 yards per session.
